It is a technique employed in order to trick the users into thinking that a message actually came from a trusted individual. In such an attack, the sender forges the sent email headers in such a manner that the client software displays the fraud sender address and that many of the users take this at face value. It is a popular issue to date and is also used in phishing attacks.
