It is the absolute maximum supply of the digital asset. It is the limit that has been placed by the code on the blockchain on the absolute maximum supply of a specific cryptocurrency. A hard cap does not permit any further circulation or creation of its units. Generally, it is understood to be positive in nature as it curates scarcity that drives up the value of the individual token. In order to bypass this limit, a crypto token has to change its underlying parameters, especially creating a new cryptocurrency.
