Orphaned Blocks is the term used for specific blocks following a Hard Fork or Soft Fork, or when blocks are produced by miners at exactly the same time. Whenever a Soft Fork or Hard Fork happens, the blockchain is divided into two paths. One of these chains will ultimately be thought the valid one, and the other will be the invalid chain. Blocks that constitute an invalid chain are called Orphaned Blocks.
