It is a variant of malware that is used by the hackers in the bid to steal or encrypt their victim’s files to extort them for a ransom in exchange for the file restoration or decryption. The ransom payments might range from a few dollars to millions and are usually paid in the digital currencies or cryptocurrencies, based on the victim who is being attacked. The three categories of ransomware that are most commonly used include screen lockers, scareware and encrypting ransomware. Bitcoin seems to be the most common ransom payment that the hackers demand.
