It is a statistical measure of the dispersion of the returns that is measured by using the standard deviation or the variance between the returns from that same security or the market index. Any cryptocurrency that experiences the frequent and large downward or upward movements in the prices are said to be volatile in nature. The very first cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, is very much volatile in nature. In most conventional assets, volatility is measured by the CBOE Volatility Index, also known as VIX.
