Any Cryptocurrency except Bitcoin is Altcoin. This may include Ethereum (ETH), Ripple (XRP), and Litecoin (LTE). Other than that there is no other distinction between altcoins and Bitcoin. Both these cryptocurrency runs on the same technology known as blockchain technology.
