CoinDeal Crypto Scheme Creator Charged With $45Mn Fraud

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) today has charged the CoinDeal Crypto Scheme Creator and various others for their involvement in raising over $45 million. The accused are Neil Chandran, Garry Davidson, Michael Glaspie, Amy Mossel, Linda Knott, AEO Publishing Inc, Banner Co-Op, Inc, and BannersGo, LLC. The accused had made this money through a fraudulent investment scheme named “CoinDeal”. This scheme raised money through the sales of unregistered securities to tens and thousands of investors around the globe.

As Chandran, Davidson, Glaspie, Knott, and Mossel falsely claimed investors could generate lavish returns by investing in a blockchain for cryptocurrency technology called CoinDeal that would be sold for trillions of dollars to prominent and wealthy investors, according to the SEC’s complaint filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. These people have allegedly distributed false and misleading statements to the investors on the claimed value of CoinDeal, the parties that were involved in the supposed sale of CoinDeal, and the usage of the investment proceeds, as per the cryptocurrency latest update.

The complaint on the CoinDeal crypto scheme further alleged that the defendants have collectively misappropriated millions of dollars of investor funds for their personal use. Chandran has used the investor funds to buy items like real estate, cars, and a boat. For more crypto currency latest news visit https://cryptoventurenews.com/category/cryptocurrency-news/

Daniel Gregus, Director of the SEC’s Chicago Regional Office mentioned,

“We allege the defendants falsely claimed access to valuable blockchain technology and that the imminent sale of the technology would generate investment returns of more than 500,000 times for investors.”

He further mentioned in the latest crypto news today,

“As alleged in our complaint, in reality, this was all just an elaborate scheme where the defendants enriched themselves while defrauding tens of thousands of retail investors.”

Back in June 2022, The U.S. Department of Justice indicted Chandran in the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska on three counts of wire fraud as well as two counts of monetary transaction in the unlawful proceeds for his involvement in the CoinDeal crypto scheme.

The following are the charges in the SEC’s complaint:

  • Chandran, Davidson, Glaspie, Knott, Banner Co-Op, and BannersGo with violating the anti-fraud and registration provisions of the Securities Act and Exchange Act through CoinDeal Crypto Scheme
  • Davidson, Glaspie, Knott, Banner Co-Op, and BannersGo with aiding and abetting certain of Chandran’s violations of the anti-fraud provisions of the Exchange Act; and
  • Mossel and AEO Publishing with aiding and abetting Glaspie’s violations of the anti-fraud and registration provisions of the Securities Act and Exchange Act.

All defendants are sought to be disgorged, plus interest and penalties before judgment, and a permanent injunction is sought against Chandran, Davidson, Glaspie, Knott, and Mossel.

As part of its ongoing investigation on the CoinDeal Crypto Scheme, the SEC is working with Dante A. Roldán, Steven Tremaglio, Caryn Trombino, and Lynette Nichols-Newman, all of the Chicago Regional Office, under the supervision of Ana D. Petrovic and Paul A. Montoya. Also from the Chicago Regional Office, Michael D. Foster will lead the litigation. Assisting the SEC was the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs and the Florida Office of Financial Regulation.

Investor alerts on the red flags of investment fraud have been issued by the SEC’s Office of Investor Education and Advocacy.
