Indian celebrities from Bollywood and cricket are continuously launching digital memorabilia via NFTs (Non-fungible tokens), aiming to bring in thousands of dollars by cashing in on evolving interest in such crypto assets. Let us have a look at some of the Bollywood NFTs and how successful they were.
You may wonder what are NFTs? NFTs which are also known as Non-fungible tokens are a type of digital asset which avails the blockchain technology to record the ownership of any particular virtual asset like videos, images, and other collectibles. Their increasing popularity has confused many users but the bombing growth shows no signs of discarding this mode.
Bollywood superstars like Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan are planning to launch their NFTs very soon. And other celebrities like Sunny Leone have already launched their NFT digital art. While Amitabh’s Bollywood NFT will have autographed posters of his films, Salman has been creating excitement on his Twitter handle telling his followers about his plan to launch the NFT. According to Ayaan Agnihotri of Bollycoin which is an NFT Marketplace for Bollywood assets.
“NFTs are right now alien to Bollywood but I am sure they (film stars) will see this as another platform where they can use their existing content and generate revenue.”
According to Agnihotri, within a few days of launching the NFTs this month, his platform successfully sold 8 million of the total 20 million “BollyCoins”. BollyCoins are the cryptocurrencies that can be used to purchase NFTs as soon as they are launched. 1 Bollycoin is 10 U.S. Cents. But for celebrities in India, it is still early days.
Indian Celebrities With Bollywood NFTs
Let us have a look at all the Bollywood NFTs of the Indian Celebrities and their take on it.
Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan’s association with NFTs (Non fungible tokens) is proving to be quite lucrative. On the first day of the auction, which commenced on 1st November and will end on 4th November, his collection of NFTs has amazed bids towards $520,000. Among the Amitabh Bachchans NFT, the “Madhushala” collection which is a collection of poems written by his late father and recorded in his voice has gained bids amounting to $420,000. The remaining bids came from the posters that were autographed by Bachhan himself. In an interview, he said,
“NFTs have opened the doors to a new realm of connectivity and an opportunity to engage with my fans in a new way. The NFTs will offer the audience a chance to own an original piece of rare and cherished moments of my life including stories from my films, recitation from Madhushala, some back stories, and moments from my films and these moments remain with them forever.”
Following other Bollywood superstars, Sunny Leone is the first Indian Bollywood actress to enter the NFT marketplace. The actress announced her first collective venture on Twitter. She tweeted,
“Meet the Misftiz! This is misfitz HONEY! She loves the color pink…boys with tattoos…and then eats them for lunch Smiling face with horns. What the world has been waiting for!!! #SUNNYLEONENFT collectibles Smiling face with heart-shaped eyes.”
At the launch of this event, Sunny in an interview said,
“This was a private sale and it sold out immediately. I am beyond excited about the hype behind my collection and the support from the community. In many ways, I am myself a misfit so there wasn’t anything that’s more appropriate than this collection.”
Last month, Salman Khan unleashed that soon he will be launching his own non fungible token. The 55-years old actor shared this news with his fans on Twitter as he shared some first glimpse of the NFT and wrote,
“Aa raha hoon main, NFTs leke. (Coming soon with NFTs).”
The Non fungible token will be released on BollyCoin, which elaborates itself as the Bollywood NFT marketplace. Khan will be launching his static NFTs on this platform within this December according to the website. The company will be marketing off the virtual collectibles from the Bollywood Industry via their platform, which they illustrate as an “innovative way for Bollywood enthusiasts” from across the globe to own NFTs of their favorite Bollywood movies and celebrities. The website will also be associating with some of Bollywood’s biggest celebrities and production houses to feature NFTs which comprises dialogues, posters, and stills from films along with posts, tweets, and more. NFT enthusiasts can even watch the NFT to their favorite dialogue from their favorite Bollywood film or own one of its exclusive NFT posters.
Asia’s biggest NFT marketplace, Colexion has released an elite contract with the Bollywood celebrity, Sunil Shetty. The entity has also joined hands with some famous cricket stars from around the world and other top celebrities from the Indian entertainment industry. In an interview, Sunit Shetty said,
‘”I am excited to be involved in this new NFT space with Colexion. I’m sure this will become a new hub for me to connect with my fans.”
Kailash Kher is a famous Indian music composer and playback singer who is deeply affected by traditional Sufi music and Indian folk music. The 48-years old musician has numerous popular hits, that includes his original songs in famous movies such as “Baahubali: The Beginning” and “Fanaa.”
The NFT released by Kailash Kher is thought of as a monumental win as Kailash Kher is not someone who can be seen as a tech-savvy person with in-depth understanding about the digital currency universe. The only reason behind forming this NFT is to take advantage of NFT’s great reach, safety, and economic chances.
The Bottom Line
NFTs have entered Bollywood and that is evident from the increase in the number of Bollywood NFTs. There are many superstars and celebrities in India who have created their own digital collectibles and are getting good responses from them. NFT has entered into sports as well. You can buy NFT if you wish to. Cricketer Dinesh Karthik is marketing an NFT crypto art reel that has been made from a cricket match where he hit a match-winning six on the last ball for nearly 5 Ethereums, a cryptocurrency, worth around $20,000. But as of now, he has not received any bids. In an interview he said,
“NFT has picked up a lot in the West in the last one year with now iconic moments from basketball being bought by fans digitally, which gave us the idea.”
