On Wednesday Visa announced that the customers have spent cryptocurrency worth $1 million through Visa cryptocurrency in the first half of the year. “We see a lot of volume on our [network] of people buying cryptocurrencies at these various regulated exchanges and as far as we can see that trend continues.”

“We are doing a lot to create an ecosystem that makes cryptocurrency more usable and more like any other currency. People are exploring ways in which they can use cryptocurrencies for things they would use normal currencies for.”

Among the Visa enabled cryptocurrency platforms, its Fintech Fastrack Programs include Blockfi, Coinbase, FTX, and Circle. The program aims in part on creating digital currency more practical for the users and spending for businesses. 

The Visa cryptocurrency partnership will make it simpler for the customers to convert and then spend the digital currencies at 70 million merchants globally. These also include those merchants that refuse to accept any digital assets. Among the program, another significant aim is to allow the users to spend in fiat currency and earn rewards in digital currencies. 

In an interview, Cuy Sheffield said that with more than $1 spent on Visa enabled cryptocurrency cards within the first six months of 2021, he is confident about the fact that there is more to come. According to him, 

“The merchants don’t have to change anything. It will be the same as any other Visa transaction to them. But on the backend, the crypto assets are instantly converted into fiat.”
